Wedding Favors
Gastronomic favors. The wedding favor represents thanks to your guests for having participated in a day that is particularly dear to us and to remember, such as a wedding, a confirmation, a communion, a baptism or other exclusive event, such as a graduation. The term Bomboniera derives from the French "bombonnière", literally "Bon Bon container", small sweets that the bride and groom gave to their guests on their wedding day. Today wedding favors are mostly packaged with sugared almonds that seem to have been invented by an Arab, a certain Al Razi who, having to administer a drug, thought of covering it with a sweet shell to avoid its unpleasant taste. The etiquette provides that the sugared almonds for each wedding favor must always be in an odd number, generally five which symbolize happiness, fertility, longevity, health and wealth. Already in the 1500s in England the "sweetmeat boxes" were used, carrying good luck sugared almonds, which the nobles exchanged during the most important anniversaries. In Italy wedding favors were given by guests to Vittorio Emanuele and Elena of Montenegro, future rulers. Today the custom continues in all social categories and modern wedding favors increasingly have a useful function.
