In the heart of the Lazio countryside immersed in an oasis of peace and tranquility, stands the estate. Its story begins in 1956, when a tenacious and visionary man, Franco Calissoni, and his wife Anna Bulgari, driven by the desire to create a refuge away from the chaos of the city, decided to buy land in this uncontaminated area.
The area, known as Colle del Buon Riposo, was rich in charm and history. Archaeological research has in fact brought to light the remains of an ancient Volscian city, Longula, and of a medieval castle built by the monks of the Aventine.
Upon their arrival, Franco and Anna found themselves faced with a largely uncultivated territory, dominated by swamps and scrub. With tenacity and dedication, they started a reclamation work that transformed the land into a flourishing garden.
In the 1960s, driven by their passion for agriculture, they decided to undertake an ambitious challenge: the cultivation of olive trees. The choice fell on the Itrana cultivar, an innovative project that aimed to enhance the unique characteristics of the local cultivar.
Love for the land and attention to detail guided every step of their enterprise. Franco Calissoni, with his skills as an agronomist, his tenacity and his acumen, has been able to transform Tenuta Calissoni Bulgari into a model of excellence. Anna Bulgari, with her refined taste and sensitivity, contributed to creating a welcoming and familiar atmosphere.
Over the years, Tenuta Calissoni Bulgari has expanded to its current 60 hectares, with 11,500 olive trees of the Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo and Itrana cultivars from which wonderful extra virgin oils are obtained and which stand as symbols of tradition and innovation.
